The Old Forest Fashioned

Picture
This drink is incredible. Imagine a traditional old fashioned, but instead of the subtle orange bitters you taste in an old fashioned, you taste the great outdoors and deep green forests of the Pacific Northwest. Sip this one slowly and wait for the notes of Douglas Fir and rosemary.
  • 2 Oz Bourbon
  • 1 Douglas Fir Liqueur (try Brovospirits)
  • 1 Oz of Douglas Fir Simple Syrup (requires 1 cup of sugar, 1 cup of water, and either a Douglas Fir or pine tea - try Juniper Ridge's Douglas Fir Spring Tip tea)
  • Fresh Rosemary for Garnishing

Ok, so this drink requires a bit of patience, but it's 100% worth it. Start by making this simple syrup. Using 1 cup of water, brew the Douglas Fir tea using 2 teabags. Let the tea cool to a mild-ish heat and add in 1 cup of sugar until fully dissolved. Once cool, you can store this in the fridge; just be sure to use it within 2 weeks as it can mold. From here, the rest is simple. Simply add the bourbon, liqueur, and simple syrup to a mixing glass with ice, stir for about 20 seconds, and strain into a rocks glass (added ice optional). Garnish with a rosemary sprig that has been burnt on the edges.
