The Madeira-Rita
This one is an delicious twist on a classic, with an awesome Madeiran wine layer that sits beneath a bed of lime, tequila, and orange liqueur. Like any margarita, though, feel free to get creative with the proportions per your liking!
Prep your glass by running a lime wedge along the rim of the glass, then dipping the glass into salt. Then, add the tequila, Cointreau, simple syrup, and fresh-squeezed lime juice into a shaker. Set one half of the squeezed lime aside and add a cup of ice to the shaker. Shake for a good 30 seconds and strain into a margarita or martini glass. To set your wine as the bottom layer of the drink, take a tablespoon, flip it face down, and hold it against the inside of your glass; slowly pour the wine onto the spoon and watch as it sets underneath your margarita. For your flaming garnish, take the lime half that you squeezed into your shaker and carefully flip it inside out so that it becomes a little boat. Pour the 151 rum into the lime boat, and light it on fire using a match or kitchen torch (be careful when lighting it). And that's it! Check out our other layered libations or themed cocktails! |
