The Leprechaun's Gold

Picture
The beauty of this one is really in the garnish and herbal notes that sit at the top of what is really a very simple drink. With whiskey and tonic water, the toasted lemon, mint, and rosemary garnish make this drink an instant classic for your St. Patty's day feasts.
  • 2 Oz Irish Whiskey
  • 4 Oz Tonic Water
  • 2 Dashes of Lemon Bitters
  • For a stronger drink, use more whiskey or less tonic/no bitters
  • 1 lemon circle, 3 mint leaves, and a rosemary sprig for garnishing
  • Sugar for garnishing

The actual is one is super easy to make. Start by adding ice to a low-ball or rocks glass. Next, add the whiskey, followed by the tonic, and stir for a few seconds. The real work for this one comes in the garnish. Start by slicing a lemon circle - try to find a decent sized lemon that covers most of the surface area of the drink. Next, sprinkle a light layer of sugar over the lemon, and use a kitchen torch to crystalize the sugar. Next, take 3 mint leaves, pinching them to release the oils, and set them atop the lemon. Finally, take the rosemary sprig, lightly toast it using a kitchen torch or lighter, and either rest it atop the lemon or set it in the center hole of the lemon.
